July 13, 2023 - Eureka!

Image
After being disappointed by Erik Fiske of Tony's Train Exchange, I was up very late on July 11, 2023, searching online for persons/companies that could convert my Standard-DC Bachmann 0-6-0 Steam Locomotive to DCC. I found Train Freak Hobbies and emailed them  through their support email. I told them the following: Brand Wheel Arrangement Purchased From What I Generally Wanted - DCC Decoder/Sound/New Lighting Provided Pictures Of Product I checked my email on July 12, 2023, to find that I had not received a response from Train Freak Hobbies.  That's when I contacted my friend, Daniel Waite, in Colorado who has a YouTube Channel called Dan's Grand Valley RR . I emailed Dan hoping that he or his friend, Mike, could help me convert the Bachmann 0-60 Steam Locomotive to DCC. I explained the situation and sent the same pictures I had sent Train Freak Hobbies. Sadly, Dan and Mike are equally knowledgeable as I am when it comes to converting DC locomotives to DCC. On July 13, 2023

July 10, 2023 - Done With Tony's Train Exchange

Image
I'm officially done trying to give Erik Fiske/Tony's Train Exchange my business. How can a business claiming to be DCC Specialist find an excuse to not convert Standard-DC locomotives to DCC? First, I asked if he could convert an AHM Plymouth Diesel Switcher to DCC. Erik stated that it wouldn't make a reliable, cost-effective conversion. I chalked it up to the model being too old as it was built in 1965. Second, I asked if he could convert a Bachmann 0-6-0 Steam Locomotive to DCC. Erik said he stayed away from all Bachmann products built before 2003 but left me a link to purchase DCC steam locomotives in their stock.

July 9, 2023 - Incomplete Project Parts - Part One

Image
Really? This Big Package For Small Parts? My package from Wm. K. Walthers, Inc. arrived today at 2:48pm but I was shocked with disbelief. I couldn't believe that Wm. K. Walthers, Inc. shipped my package in a large cardboard tube as I only purchased small parts for my upcoming projects. If anything, they could have cut two flaps from a "sacrificial box", put the parts in between, securely taped the sides so that nothing would fall out and slapped on the shipping label. Now Wm. K. Walthers, Inc. has something in common with Amazon and Walmart. A-Line no. 29220 - Chain 12" Black Northwest Scale Lumber no. 2070 - 12" x 12" x 24" (1/8" x 1/8") The first items are for the Plymouth Diesel Switcher / Flat Car project. Since I was on a limited budget on July 7, 2023, I must carefully plan what extra parts I will need to complete this project. At best guess, I'll need the following: Detail Associates no. 1101 - Lift Rings (18) - 1 pkg Kadee no. 27

July 8, 2023 - A Trip To Dollar Tree

Crafter's Square Self-Healing Cutting Pad, 9 x 7 in. Crafter's Square Scrapbook/Utility Knife Set (with 6 Blades) Original Super Glue, 0.1 oz. I took a break from model railroading today. My package from Wm. K. Walthers, Inc. is supposedly due to arrive sometime tomorrow by FedEx. I did walk down to my local Dollar Tree store - less than 10 minutes from my location - and purchased a few times in preparation for all the projects I need to complete as soon as possible.

July 7, 2023 - Locomotive As A Load Project - Part Two

Image
I placed my online order with Wm. K. Walthers, Inc. instead of M.B. Klein. I purchased a Walthers Mainline Caboose Detail Kit (no.201) and Kadee 40' PS-1 Box Car Ladders (no.2102) for my upcoming Boom Car project. I also purchased an A-Line 12" Black Chain package and a piece of Northeastern Scale Lumber for an upcoming Flat Car/Plymouth Load project. According to Wm. K. Walthers, Inc., I should receive my order as soon as July 9, 2023. AHM MDT/35-Ton Plymouth Diesel Switcher Stripped Of Its Motor And Parts After I placed my order with Wm. K. Walthers, Inc.,  I went to work on dismantling the AHM MDT/35-Ton Plymouth Diesel Switcher. Although the seller on eBay proved that the model was operational, the copper contacts and motor were on their last legs based on the dust and other deposits I found. It didn't take long to strip the locomotive of its guts and reassemble the shell to the chassis. Now that the AHM MDT/35-Ton Plymouth Diesel Switcher is a dummy locomotive, its li

July 6, 2023 - Bachmann 0-6-0 Steam Locomotive

Bachmann Industries 0-6-0 with Tender Smokey Mountain Express I just received my package from eBay containing my steam locomotive. To make up for the loss of the AHM MDT/35-Ton Plymouth Diesel Switcher, I decided to purchase a Standard DC Bachmann Industries 0-6-0 Steam Locomotive decorated for the Smokey Mountain Express from eBay on June 30, 2023. Erik Fiske of Tony's Train Exchange should be able to convert this model to DCC since it was made in the mid-1990s. I'm still getting over the fact that I purchased this model for only $37.98 when the same model is sold through Wm. K. Walthers, Inc for $165.00! Non-Working Taillight On Tender Although Erik Fiske from Tony's Train Exchange is out of town until July 10, 2023, I'm hoping that it will be possible for him to do the following things for the 0-6-0 Steam Locomotive and Tender: Install a primary decoder inside the steam locomotive. Install a (steam) sound system inside the tender. Install new directional lighting for
